This read is for you if you’re thinking about applying for Startmate fellowship, embarking on your Startmate journey, or generally interested to know what the program has to offer.
We’re going to walk through the major highlights of the program, answers to some general concerns and my personal learning journey.
Just start, mate.
Over the summer this program has heated up our extreme desire for entrepreneurship.
In brief, Startmate is structured with master classes, coaching sessions, founders challenge and networking catch-ups.
There’s no such thing as mandatory classes as your university or school does - you decide what and how you want to get involved with.
The analogy they used for it is a buffet - you pick the dishes that you want. The more you pick, the more delicacy you enjoy.
1️⃣ Master-classes from guests
We have a list of stellar line-up from healthtech to fintech to edtech - to name but a few areas. Some examples of topics covered: how to build MVP with no-code tools, how to find internships and how to create your rules.
While each guest share their insights and tips, fellows are encouraged to ask any questions they have in their mind.
🤔 Is the content practical?
We all have that similar problem in school: learnt theories can’t be applied to real-life.
In Startmate, I would say the sessions are more about getting inspirations and knowing who’s doing what, while updating yourself with the newest trends. Unlike theoretical-based textbooks, the sessions are equipping you with practical resources, actionable steps and personal insights.
Speaking of myself, I had zero understanding towards Venture Capital (VC), and I always had this strange feeling of over-intimidated respect for people who’re working in this field.
It’s my first time to get to know how a venture capitalist’s daily workflow looks like through the Startmate session. Nevertheless mind-blowing. But at the same time I quickly realised that the subject is not inapproachable as I thought.
